Greek Gods and Goddesses (Pt. 11)

Dionysus:

Roman names: Liber and Bacchus. Dionysus is the Greek god of wine, winemaking, grape cultivation, fertility, ritual madness, theater, and religious ecstasy. His symbols include an ivy wreath, the thyrsus, bull, grapevine, goat, chalice, panther, and masks. He had the ability to make wine and make vines grow. He could also transform himself into some animals, such as the bull or lion. One of his special powers was the ability to drive mortals insane. By the way, if you think being the god of wine is not great or important, think again, because wine was an important part of the culture of ancient Greece. He was the only Olympic god with a mortal parent (Semele, his mother). He taught men how to plant and tend the grapevine, and also how to make wine. He turned pirates to dolphins to save them from death. It’s believed that he died each winter and was reborn in the spring. Mythicists believe things about him that sound more like Jesus. Example? Ok, well, many myhicists believe he was born on December 25th, turned water into wine, is known as the “only begotten son” or “savior”, was killed and resurrected after 3 days, ascended to Heaven, and his blood is the “wine of sacrifice”. To me, that all sounds like Jesus. So, this is what Google has to say about it:

Um, whoever says that mythicists make him sound less like Jesus is a fool. All the examples I stated scream “JESUS, JESUS!!”. Anyway, during the Trojan War, Dionysus sided with the… actually, I don’t know. I was going to look it up, but I said I wouldn’t look this information up, so I won’t.
