Norse Gods and Goddesses (Pt. 2)

Thor:

The god of thunder, the sky, and agriculture. He was the Defender of Asgard, the Realm of the Gods, and Midgard, the realm of humans. He’s primarily associated with protection through great feats of arms in slaying giants. Thor is the archetype of a loyal and honorable warrior. No one else is better suited for the task of defending the Æsir gods and Asgard than Thor. His physical strength is virtually unmatched and his courage can’t be shaken. Also, he owns an unnamed belt of strength, which makes his already unmatched strength even greater when he wears it. His most famous weapon and main ally in battle is his hammer, Mjolnir, which means “lightning”. He very rarely goes anywhere without it. His main enemy is Jormungand, the giant sea serpent that circles Midgard. The two finally face each other during Ragnarok, the end of the world in Norse mythology, and they put an end to each other. He’s associated with strength, storms, and fertility. He is the son of Odin and Jörð, and is physically the strongest of the Æsir. Mjolnir, his hammer, was made through the trickery of Loki, also known as the trickster. Loki got on the bad side of Thor when he cut off the golden hair of Thor’s wife, Sif. Thor became extremely mad and threatened to shatter Loki’s bones but Loki dodged Thor’s wrath. He promised he could give Sif even lovelier locks for Sif from the dwarves. Thor let Loki go to Svartalheim, the caves where dwarves lived. Because the dwarves were master craftsmen, Loki succeeded in his task. When I write about Loki, you’ll read about the creation of Mjolnir. I would tell the story here, but it has more to do with Loki then it does Thor. Thor has red hair. The weekday Thursday (Thor’s day) is named after him. His hammer could crush mountains. It is said that he flies across the sky in a chariot pulled by two massive goats, Tanngniost and Tanngrisnir. He would kill them and eat them and, if their bones were undamaged, they could regenerate overnight. His greatest enemies were the giants from Jotunheim, the realm of the frost giants. His hammer would always return to him. This is Thurisaz, the Rune of Thor:
